Assessment

 Hi, readers!

How’s life?

I hope all of you feel good and happy.

Today we will talk about Assessment.

What is Assessment?
Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences; the process culminates when assessment results are used to improve.

Why do we need to assess young learners?

  1.  The teacher can become more aware of areas that are causing problems for the students and then concentrate on them.

  2. The teachers can adjust their teaching to suit the needs and learning styles of the students.

  3. The teacher will have a better understanding of what can be achieved in a class

There are 6 types of the assessments:

  1.  Diagnostic Assessment (as Pre-Assessment)

One way to think about it: Assesses a student’s strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction.

  1. Formative Assessment

One way to think about it: Assesses a student’s performance during instruction, and usually occurs regularly throughout the instruction process. Another way to think about it: Like a doctor’s ‘check-up’ to provide data to revise instruction
Tip: Using digital exit ticket tools like Loop can be an easy means of checking whether students have understood lesson content, while also promoting student reflection.

  1. Summative Assessment

One way to think about it: Measures a student’s achievement at the end of instruction. Another way to think about it: It’s macabre, but if formative assessment is the check-up, you might think of summative assessment as the autopsy. What happened? Now that it’s all over, what went right and what went wrong?

  1. Norm-Referenced Assessment

One way to think about it: Compares a student’s performance against other students (a national group or other “norm”)

Another way to think about it: Group or ‘Demographic’ assessment

  1. Criterion-Referenced Assessment

One way to think about it: Measures a student’s performance against a goal, specific objective, or standard. Another way to think about it: a bar to measure all students against

  1. Interim/Benchmark Assessment

One way to think about it: Evaluates student performance at periodic intervals, frequently at the end of a grading period. Can predict student performance on end-of-the-year summative assessments. Another way to think about it: Bar graph growth through a year

I think that’s all for today. Thank you for visiting my blog.

See you!

Stay safe and stay healthy!
